Why I'm Running for Mayor

For the last 20 years, my husband, Michael, and I have proudly raised our two daughters here. I am a lifelong Iowan and Michael’s family has lived in Cedar Rapids for generations.  Like many parents, we always thought our kids would go off to college and hoped that they would return home someday like we did. Too often lately, that’s not the case.  Our own daughter is graduating from college and moving to Houston to pursue her career.

What would it take to keep her here?  What would it take for other sons and daughters to choose to move to Cedar Rapids?  That’s what made me decide to run.  If our kids aren’t choosing to live in Cedar Rapids, who will?  I want to help make Cedar Rapids the destination not only for our kids, but for the workers of the future that will power a new generation of our great city.

I believe our great city is at a crossroads:  we can continue with the status quo or we can drive opportunity and growth for all Cedar Rapidians. Our city has a great history and much to offer, but over the last few years, it feels like we’re running in place.  We need new energy, vision and leadership to take our city where it needs to go.  I believe that I have the experience to make a difference and I’m ready to step up and help lead our city forward.

“If you want to know what I’ll do over the next 4 years,

just look at what I’ve done over the last 20.”
